the first time I was watching this movie I was still a kid. an older brother of a friend had the movie and we were watching it secretly when his parents were not at home. we were 5 boys aged 10-11 at the time and everyone of us had a pillow to put in front of our faces when things got too scary. So at the end of the movie when they were flying away we obviously put those pillows away because we thought the movie is over - huge mistake!

I dont think they mention it but did the Newt actress "Carrie", did she actually do that high pitch scream or was the post sound production?

At 1:19:50 Cameron has a great quote, one that I think many filmmakers could learn from. Benefit from. "You don't create fear with gore, you create disgust. A whole different emotion." I think he hit that mark perfectly. It's about the same reasoning behind why "jump scare" is usually used as a negative critique of a moment or moments in films. Surprise isn't fear any more than disgust is. It only takes SFX to create disgust, and it only takes editing to create surprise. It takes *talent* to create fear.

Poor Paul Reiser. He will always be Burke, Carter J. to me, and I so disliked Burke that I never wanted to watch Reiser in any other role. That's totally unfair, I admit, but it's the fact. I wonder if I'm alone. I know he went on to further success on TV, but would he have done even better if he hadn't been the perfect asshole he was in Aliens? We'll never know, I guess.

2:49:10 "There were no test-screenings for the film; we didn't have time" - and right there is probably a major reason why this film is a timeless classic. I hate to think about the version of Aliens we could have ended up with if the film had been subjected to that damaging process...

i can't believe i'm saying this, but hearing about what happened with the set erupting into poisonous flames of gas . . . i have to honestly say that i'm _glad_ we don't do things like that anymore. fire and people in close quarters being done all digitally is almost certainly a _good_ thing. i can't imagine how i'd react if i suddenly couldn't breathe while filming a scene. terrible. terrible stuff. i love practical effects, and this movie has a raw tangibility most modern movies can't dream of . . . but yeah, that's a terrible story.

beautiful, passionate, Liberal Sigourney Weaver: "i can't _imagine_ the people who like guns. ooh. you'd really have to do a number on yourself to be like that. shudder."
SMASH CUT TO BILL PAXTON GRINNING LIKE A MANIAC: "i _love_ shooting guns! it's the best part of the job!"
so funny. it also shows how such disparate, different people can not only work together happily but be friendly and even friends with each other. both of them have such different political ideals, but both have nothing but praise and love for each other. that's pretty brilliant.

Smoking Fox Executive about Sigourney Weaver: "i know she got paid what she asked for." dismissive. disgusted. an executive mutt. what did HE get paid? i bet it was worth it. i'm sure _his_ contributions where vastly more important to the film's success than Sigourney's lazy, Oscar™ nominated, iconic performance.
that's often the thing about corporate dicks like that - even if their product was immeasurably successful _especially because_ of a battle they lost, they'll always remember the point as only that - a lost cause, a rebellion, a shock to the ego. The South Will Rise Again - that sort of thing.
he may be incredibly successful financially, but i bet that guy's _miserable._ absolutely miserable. just can't let it go, 17 years (and an Academy Award™ nomination for of all things a lead in a horror movie) later. oh well.

When I was a kid I watched this movie...home...alone. I was so terrified that I could not look at the screen directly and hid my face with my hands and peeked through my fingers. However I just had to watch it to the end despite my fear, to see what would happen next. For days and days I was in shock, anxious, nervous, loss of appetite, couldn't sleep, It was an experience I will never forget and no other movie ever made me feel this way.

Loved this movie. Too bad about the penultimate scene where the deck decompresses with the hatch open and the alien queen is hanging below Ripley and grabs her foot. I always thought.. Oh NO.. really? On top of the power of the decompression, a beast like that would have the power to instantly tear her arm off that ladder. As great as the movie was that was a terrible mistake

Ripley really was insane. She had PTSD and was acting irrationally. All she knew was that the aliens were dangerous. She says in her hearing "If just one those things get here(Earth) then you can just kiss all this goodbye"!
Meaning that she thinks one alien will kill everyone... I'm sure the colonial marines could handle one alien. Sure, it might kill a few hundred people, but it won't wipe out civilization as Ripley implies.
One alien queen could potentially wipe out earth, but at that point, Ripley didn't know there was a queen. No one did. Had they left the deleted scene in the original Alien film that showed Ripley discovering Tom Selleck turning into an alien egg, then she would be rational. Alas, that is not film canon though.

  • ppimtx
    ppimtx 3 महीने पहले

I would love to see a movie of what the colonists went through when they first discovered the aliens, but then again it might take away from the mystique of this movie. Like the barricaded doors left after everyone had been taken, such a perfect way to show how people tried to protect themselves but ultimately failed.

Jim Cameron sounds like this typical american workaholic asshole. Have worked under many american leaders and they are all the same. You can always argue that they "get it done" or they are "geniuses", but whatever man, if its funded by blood sucking americans so it has to be run in american way. What about if the movie would have actually been better if people could have excercised some free will and actually had fun while doing it. Americans just have the talent to poison the atmosphere where ever they go.

I remember when the movie first came out in 1986, the movie poster had Ripley holding a weapon/rifle in a similar manner of Stallone in the Rambo II poster. I assumed (incorrectly) at the time, that the studio had sold out and produced a movie that capitalized on the Rambo franchise. I was thinking it is going to be this turkey shoot type movie the likes of Rambo II where Ripley would be shooting down Aliens like Rambo, so I totally dismissed it. 12-15 years later, I watched Aliens on TV and was blown away by the sequel and it's SFX.

Gore = Disgust? But not fear, James Cameron? Tell that to the 14 year old version of me seeing the film and reacting to Lance Henriksen being ripped in two toward the end. THAT was the moment that told me he was an Android (or was he an alien with white blood?) and was more concerned with the survival of his human benefactors than getting out of the situation alive. It was also the moment I was scared to literal tears. That and the scientist/colonist/wall sconce scene when I saw this movie. I was so terrified I hid my wimpy eyes and those wimpy eyes wept. It is one of my favorite movies to this day. Thank god that the people around this movie had the foresight to know they were working on something amazing and truly groundbreaking. I’m sure that the concept of Space Marines had been envisioned before (and during the Cold War I know for a fact that such people operated in manned spy satellites and flew missions that us common folk will never know about) but this was the first big public exposure to the concept. This is an amazing documentary. For a movie I love as much as this, I’d be happy if this was a 372hr video audiobook and not just a nicely-paced documentary. This was an incredible movie and a wonderfully produced documentary. Thank You 🙏 to all involved. Even you James Cameron. You jackwad genius. At one point his ex says ‘this is a movie and not worth endangering people in real life’ and I said..... “eh?” Is it though? I mean sure it is fiction but would NOT be the first time science fiction influenced military, on-station, fact. Just sayin’.

Gail sounded like an utter bitch when she told the music composer "we'll just get someone than can do the music if you can't" Who the F did those two think they were. After hearing how terrible both of them were I wish the film had flopped, it would have served them right. And it wasn't a flop and the two jackass's kept getting away with it.
